Finalists in business start-up competition
Twelve innovative businesses have been chosen as finalists in Invest Hong Kong’s 2013 StartmeupHK Venture Programme competition, designed to highlight Hong Kong’s potential for start-up businesses. The competition attracted 384 entries from 39 countries.
The finalists come from the US, India, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Israel and have business ideas ranging from opthamology solutions to the recycling of oil-based waste into clean fuel (see box).
All entries were judged on the scale of the challenge or opportunity they addressed, the venture’s viability and sustainability, and the potential economic benefit to Hong Kong.
The 12 finalists will be invited to Hong Kong to
take part in StartmeupHK Week from 2 to 7 December, at which the three Grand Award Winners will be announced.

• J Plus Corporation Ltd (Hong Kong) – sports coaching application
• Phoenix Depot International Inc (Canada)
– recycling of oil-based waste for clean fuel
• Pinnacle Engines (US) – energy-efficient engines
• Sanguine Biosciences, Inc (US) – biomedical data research
• VajraSoft Inc (US) – intellectual property management solution
• Wifinity Ltd (India) – IoT (Internet of Things) semiconductor
• Zimfly, Inc (US) – mobile Building Information
